About Giles
I am a qualified teacher of Latin and Classics. I recently completed my Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Latin with Classics and qualified as a teacher at the University of Cambridge. I have achieved MPhil thesis in Classics. I am available to tutor Latin, Ancient, Ancient History and History at GCSE, AS and A-Level and for university examinations. I can also tutor A-Level students for their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), having undertaken substantial university-level research. I have great experience of teaching GCSE and A-Level Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation and History to individual pupils and classes both as a tutor and teacher. I have experience of planning and teaching lessons successfully to pupils of all ages with creative methods, allowing students to remain engaged in lessons and learn effectively. Additionally, I have significant experience of teach pupils with differing prior attainments, English as an Additional Language and disabilities with adaptive teaching methods and differentiated learning objectives. This means that I can adapted lesson content to any pupil's needs and teach them effectively. I also have great experience of marking classwork and examination papers and essays and creating assessments. This allows me to mark and set examination papers for pupils to prepare them for examinations. During my research MPhil, I studied the use of ancient imagery during the First World War. I investigated how and why artists reused ancient imagery and combined them with other genres of imagery such as medieval and contemporary images on civic cultural artefacts such as printed media, medals and ceramics to persuade men and women to serve in the conflict and to commemorate their service after the conflict. I also studied how and why commissioners ordered these objects and how audiences responded to these images. This extensive research experience means that I can accurately guide and advise pupils in producing their EPQ work.

Giles tutored me in Latin for almost a year. He is a warm hearted, patient and caring teacher. He is always well prepared for lessons and is very encouraging and supportive to his students. I highly recommend Giles to anyine needing help at any level of their studies.
My son, Ben, arrived from Australia with a huge gap in his Latin knowledge. He tried a few other tutors who were unable to help. Giles was able to understand what Ben was missing and made an enormous difference even after the first session. Not only is Giles a fantastic tutor, Ben thought he was a very interesting person and looked forward to talking to him.
Mr Penman tutored my daughter in Latin, to prepare her for her Latin GCSE and then Latin A'Level. I found him to be a reliable and inspiring tutor, who helped not only with her translations, but also brought the Roman civilisation alive for her, and installed in her a love of Classics. He was very adaptable, and able to fit in with our timetable. He had such an extensive knowledge of the subject, that he was able to educate her with resources outside of the curriculum, which helped her gain a deeper understanding. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Penman, and cannot praise him highly enough.
