About Logan
Bio
I come from a deaf household. Both my parents are ASL professors at Sacramento State University. American Sign Language was my first language. There wasn’t much music around the house.
I was 15 when I got my first guitar. I had no idea how to use it and it was painful to play. I bought or borrowed every music theory book I could and signed up for all the music class available in high school. Youtube helped greatly. I was tone deaf for a long time. It took years for me to understand music. I learned most of it the hard way. I’m glad I didn’t give up.
Before teaching music, I worked in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as a personal tutor for kids on the autism spectrum. I strive to practice the principles of ABA when teaching music.
I enjoy working with students who typically struggle under normal classroom settings. I feel lessons should always be reinforcing for the student, and the curriculum continually updated to fit their preferred learning style.
I primarily teach at New Songs School of Music. I also substitute teach with School of Rock, and give private lessons on the side.
My favorite subjects to teach are music theory, guitar, ukulele, piano, and voice.

2) Using music theory to practice student-selected songs
3) Building a repertoire of performance pieces.
