About Serena
I am a passionate guitar tutor with 11 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Guitar Studies. Music has always been more than a skill for me; it is a creative language. I love writing, arranging, and shaping music into meaningful performances. This creative passion strongly influences the way I teach.
My lessons are student-centred, encouraging, and designed around individual goals. I work closely with Intermediate to Advanced learners and even professionals who want to refine their craft. Together, we strengthen scales, fretboard knowledge, rhythm accuracy, and advanced technique. I place strong focus on groove, timing, and musical expression.
Songwriting is a big part of my teaching approach. I guide students in composing original pieces, arranging music creatively, and building a unique artistic voice. Performance skills are also essential, so I train students in stage confidence, tone control, and live presentation. My goal is to help every guitarist grow technically while staying inspired. My teaching approach is practical, structured, and inspiring for every guitar student. I focus on building strong foundations in technique, posture, tone control, and musical awareness. Rhythm practice is central to my lessons because timing is the heart of great guitar playing. We work deeply on groove development, tempo control, and smooth transitions between chords. I use metronome training, backing tracks, and guided rhythm drills to strengthen consistency and confidence.
Students explore classical, jazz, electric, bass, and acoustic styles with clear step-by-step guidance. I also help them adapt naturally across blues, funk, and folk, understanding the feel behind each genre. Strumming patterns, fingerstyle techniques, chord voicings, improvisation, and basic music theory are blended into every session. This helps students not only play songs but truly understand the music.
For those who enjoy leading sing-alongs or guiding musical gatherings, I provide focused support in strumming flow, dynamic control, and vocal accompaniment skills. I train them to maintain steady rhythm while confidently supporting a group. My goal is to help every learner, from beginner to advanced, develop passion, creativity, and stage confidence. Each lesson is personalised, encouraging steady progress and a lifelong love for the guitar.
