About Paul
I trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and was awarded the Gold Medal upon graduation. Since leaving Guildhall I have worked as an actor for nearly 20 years. In theatre I have worked for the RSC, playing a leading role in Webster's Duchess of Malfi, as well as several seasons at Shakespeare's Globe. I've travelled the world with my work, shooting a feature film in Brazil and have recently completed filming all six episodes as the guest lead in series 3 of the Finnish crime drama Arctic Circle. When not working as an actor I have worked as a mentor to young people with special educational needs and behavioural issues. This role requires great empathy and patience and has taught me how to coach people through some of the more challenging moments in their lives.

The relationship between the student and the tutor should be forged around trust and respect. To act is to be courageous and courage will make you fly. It's my aim to help the student free themselves from the natural doubts and negativity that can so easily creep in during any creative process. I will always encourage the freedom to fail. Through failure we grow. There's no such thing as the 'right answer' when it comes to acting. For me it's about trying different ideas, never censoring ourselves, pushing through difficulties, all achieved through the mutual trust and respect I mentioned earlier. In preparation for drama school auditions I will help you pick the speeches that I think suit you best and decode the mysteries that I wish I had known when I was auditioning all those years ago. Entrance to drama school is an incredibly competitive field and can cause a huge level of stress and anxiety but through the work we do you can get to a place where you're in control and empowered to succeed. Drama schools are looking for you to be you. But getting to that point can be harder than it seems. This is aim of these sessions If you have an audition/self tape for a professional job I will spend the time with you breaking the scenes down and applying a variety of techniques and methods. We will work imaginatively, coming up with many different ways to play the scene.

Perfect! A great first session to get to know Paul and his approach. He boosted my son's confidence with his acting and will be a supportive coach.
- Toby (Pamela's son) has a willingness to learn and improve. Most crucially he has the passion required to attend drama school. i look forward to helping him on his journey.Paul's response :

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I have known Paul for several years and recommended him as a youth mentor for Charlton Athletic Community Trust in Thanet last year. I have worked with him over the past year and Paul has made a huge impact in the lives of young people and helped them through difficult issues, suicidal ideation, self-harm, on the edge of county lines, CCE, CSE etc, he has made a difference. Paul is trustworthy and loyal. Paul will put himself out and has a vast amount of energy which young people need. Paul is supportive, an active listener and is able to get through to young people as he relates well to them. As a tutor/teacher I would imagine he would make a good teacher as he is proactive and fantastic role model, he is imaginative, creative as well as being supportive. Paul organises his time to work 1:1 with young people and keeps his own diary attending appointments.
I would have no hesitation but to recommend him for a position as a teacher or worker with children and young people.I know Paul as he works at the same school as I, as an outsourced mentor for students in need of positive, empowering support to integrate into school and increase their enjoyment in school/ life. Paul has been able to support students in creative ways and uses his acting skills to adapt and captivate the students- making them feel fully seen, that someone is interested in them and therefore building their self-esteem and confidence.
I work closely with Paul to ensure the students who meet threshold gain support from Paul. I recommend Paul to Superprof because of the first hand observations that I have seen, and the positive feedback from students about their sessions with Paul.
Including:
Paul has been working at school, supporting multiple young people effectively. Paul has had a differentiated caseload and has adapted to each student's needs effectively. The young people were referred to work with Paul due to low self-esteem, contextual safeguarding concerns, and at risk of disengaging from education. Through mentoring sessions with Paul, I heard/saw and was told by the young people how much they enjoyed the sessions. They gradually felt safe to share their feelings with Paul and work through things on their mind. It was visually clear they had expended energy- physical and mental- through their tailored support and activities and were all ready to return to class. The young people would eagerly ask me when they had their sessions with Paul and they would put effort in to ensure they were at school to have their session with him.
The young people found much value in their working relationships with Paul, for example: One student had an issue that he had been fixating on all week, which had led to sanctions due to unsafe coping mechanisms being used. He then had a session with Paul and utilised this time to vent all hour due to being given a safe space to express all of his thoughts and feelings that he had been holding back and expressing in unsafe ways. This massively supported his wellbeing and he was able to move on and focus on his schooling.
A clear representation of Paul's effectiveness with the young people was the last session 'Litter pick then football' activity. This was for all of the young people Paul had worked with to come together. It encapsulated the motivation, respect, teamwork that Paul had been instilling in them for multiple sessions. It was a pleasure to see and the young people loved it, even with some squabbles- but this was resolved and reflected on. There was a clear sense of achievement that they had all been working on to recognise their own growth and ability to come together to celebrate.
It has been a pleasure working with Paul, for the young people and the team.Paul has coached me on a number of aspects of acting & public speaking. He is friendly and professional and gave me lots of techniques to build my confidence, and improve my performance overall. I would highly recommend Paul as a tutor and mentor.
As a friend of Paul's, I have seen him in numerous shows over the past 13 years. I have always been blown away by his ability to connect with an audience, and to transform himself with each role. He has an incredible ability to make everyone he meets feel at ease, and radiates a kindness and confidence that is truly infectious. He is a fantastic listener and communicator and through his mentoring work with young people, he has shown that his compassion and understanding really can transform lives.
