About Alex
I am a Greek violin player, focusing on traditional music. I have also played in rebetiko and Entechno bands. I hold the Grade 8 (distinction) and DipABRSM violin qualifications as well as a degree in music harmony and theory. I have practised Byzantine music for 10 years in Greece. I have also studied classical guitar for five years which is my second instrument.

I teach on one-to-one basis and I try to focus on what the student is willing to learn. I teach traditional violin by ear but I also encourage students to learn music notation. I believe that Byzantine music is very well connected with traditional melodies and it is good to have an understanding of it if a student is willing to learn the background theory.
