About Mel
I am 16 years old in Year 12 and I am very passionate about English. It has always been one of my strongest and most enjoyable subjects, and I particularly enjoyed it throughout GCSE, as well as throughout my time in primary school, where my love for wanting to become a teacher first started. I am passionate about helping students to grow in confidence, improve their skills and realise their potential so they are able to go into their exams with ease. In the future, I want to be a primary school teacher, and tutoring gives me the opportunity to do something I generally enjoy while supporting students in a positive and encouraging way.

My approach to tutoring is supportive and structured and focused on building both confidence and exam technique. I aim to help break down complex ideas into clear, manageable steps and teach students how to approach questions with ease and confidence. For some students, english can be challenging and confusing and I aim to help students feel confident and feel free to ask any questions in a supportive and safe atmosphere.
Lessons would typically involve talking through key skills, creating mind-maps and exploring plots, themes and analysing key quotes for novels and practising how to structure high-level answers. For language and 11+, I place particular emphasis on creative writing, as well as working through past-paper questions, model answers, and show students how to highlight command words, plan effectively, and improve their responses through detailed feedback.
My typical lesson length is 30-45 minutes, as I have found this keeps students focused and productive, but I am also happy to teach one-hour sessions if preferred.
I am currently in year 12 at a grammar school studying A-level English Language and Literature. I have experience mentoring and tutoring GCSE students in year 10 and 11, including helping one student improve from a grade 3 to a grade 6 within a few months and I am currently mentoring two Year 10 students.
My lessons are aimed at GCSE AQA English Language and Literature students in year 10-11, as well as 11+ students who want support with reading, writing and exam techniques.
