About Serena
I have been a psychology mentor for just under a year. I mentored Secondary and A-level Psychology students. Overall, I have mentored 15 students, some of whom have gone on to University to study Psychology further.
With my trusty help and of course the hardworking from students, none of my students have achieved less than a C grade.

Background:
Hi guys, my name is Serena and I am 21 years old. I have just graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in Education Studies and Psychology. I am an aspiring teacher and I am looking to embark on my PGCE teacher training course this September in Psychology. But, why wait until September when I can be of help now, right?
Methods:
Having mentored various students before around Nottingham, I believe effective teaching is not restricted to one method. Each individual learns differently to the other. Therefore, I will not use a 'one shoe fits all' technique. What I will do, is to try and understand how you learn best; are you a visual learner? Do you enjoy educational games or activities? Do you learn best by repetition?
Mentoring is very different to classroom teaching, as the collective needs of the class have to be addressed on a general level and not individual. Therefore, we can find many ways to address your academic concerns on an individual level so you can achieve that top grade! Also, I use motivational techniques to allow you to find a reason to generate a greater work ethic. Meaningful learning generates far greater academic results. So feel free to tell me what it is you want to accomplish, what you aspire to be and we will use that as your driving factor.
Lesson Structure:
Lesson structures will be rigid, but this allows you to get into a healthy routine which will become habitual.
We will look at three vital things:
1. Essay planning
2. Past papers
3. Revision techniques
Characteristics:
As a mentor I have been described as approachable. I feel this is vital for students who feel too scared to ask questions in lessons, feel free to ask anything you are unsure of. Also, I like to put the 'fun' in education. Learning should NOT be boring or tedious. Luckily for you, Psychology is an interesting subject. However, there are elements that are more boring than others. But, that does not mean the process of learning has to be boring in itself.
