About Sarah Laurie
I am a senior at the University of Puget Sound, and in May 2019 will have a degree in Art History & French Literature with an Interdisciplinary Humanities Emphasis on Visual Culture. I have dedicated my studies to the art, language, literature, culture, and history of France since I began taking French classes at the age of 8. This past summer, I began to tutor local kids in weekly private sessions at various levels of their French studies.

I begin by learning about the current level of language known by my student, whether that be by engaging in simple conversation, or taking a look at the latest textbooks used. With these two methods, I can gauge the level of French language studies that the student is currently at. I like to dive into sessions by creating realistic goals for the student's learning outcomes. I begin by reinforcing the student's current level with personalized workbook exercises and written assignments. Once this strong foundation of the language is established, I push the student forward in a direction that suits them, pinpointing the student's weaknesses and strengths in the language. I try to find out exactly what learning styles work best for my student and target these certain areas so that a deeper understanding of the language can be achieved — no matter the end goal of the tutoring.
