About Patricia
It is interesting to note the variety of approaches a tutor or instructor of a session or class might have to create a positive learning environment for students to process their learning experiences in second language acquisition or other ESL settings. Methodologies span from the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach through six other language learning approaches. As explained by Savignon, the essence of Communicative learning is that it “puts the focus on the learner” and on the learner’s communicative needs. When I have considered several approaches, I find myself leaning more toward the communicative learning approach for the foundation of my teaching and tutoring philosophy.

In the past, I have worked with teens and adults who need help with their sentence structure, writing essays, pronunciation, reading, public speaking, and conversation. I have also helped students learn pre-debate and debate strategies or principles for classroom discussion topics.
