About Chance
My name is Mr. Chance Hebert. I am classical educator who has been trained in the liberal arts, with a special focus on Catholic theology. I spent my undergrad studying the Western Canon, from Plato and Aristotle to Augustine and Aquinas, from Homer and Virgil to Dante and Shakespeare. After firmly establishing my understanding of the liberal arts, I went on to study patristic doctrine at the University of Oxford where I spent a great deal of time focusing on the relationship between philosophy and theology. I am extremely passionate about classical education and the importance of cultivating one's intellect through reading and discussing the wisdom of the greatest authors in human history. I am currently theology teacher at a Catholic elementary school, but I am looking to take on some more advanced students who are eager to learn and read with a well trained guide.

With the Great Books/Western Canon as our guide, students will explore the great perennial questions of human thought as they cultivate their intellects and strive for human excellence.
A typical class will consist of an hour long Socratic discussion concerning the assigned text (typically 20-40 pages of reading), in which the tutor guides the student through the text with strategic questioning. The goal is to teach the student how to think for him/herself and how to independently analyze and understand the significance of a text. These classes are not meant simply to raise questions, but rather to ascertain the truths concerning human nature and experience.
These classes are specifically designed for upper secondary and undergraduate students who seek wisdom for the sake of wisdom.
