For students currently enrolled in a math course...
- I typically start by going over the student's homework with them, using their assigned problems as examples to demonstrate skills they learned in class
- I encourage the student to do the work on their own beforehand if possible, and to work through problems that they were confused on or struggling with in session with me
- After finishing assigned coursework, I recommend that the student brings graded quizzes, tests, or other assignments to the session for us to develop strategies for together.
The reason I teach current students primarily using their own course materials is because different schools, teachers, and universities will promote different learning objectives in their classes.By using material from your course specifically, we make sure that we are focusing on the content that is most important to your professor, instead of every single possible question type that may not even appear on your exam.
For those who are not currently enrolled in classes, I have lesson plans of practice problems and example problems worked out for a variety of subjects that I can go through topic-by-topic with a student.
