About Daniel
Hi, I'm Dan! I'm currently completing my graduate studies at the University of Bridgeport, working toward my master's degree in elementary education. I graduated from Miami University with a degree in sport leadership and management in 2024. I have 2 years of experience working as a paraprofessional and substitute teacher, which has given me real, hands-on experience supporting students of all learning styles and needs. My coursework has focused heavily on instruction in math, reading, writing, and social studies, as well as child development and differentiated teaching strategies, so I bring both formal training and practical classroom experience to every session.
Beyond academics, I also offer basketball coaching and music appreciation lessons. I played competitively through high school and spent two years coaching middle schoolers, so I know how to break down skills, build confidence on the court, and keep practices engaging for that age group. On the music side, I've been making music for over 5 years — songwriting, singing, and working with music software — and love helping students explore their own creativity, whether that's writing their first song, developing their voice, or just building a deeper appreciation for music as a listener.

My approach to tutoring is hands-on and student-centered. I use manipulatives, real-world connections, and productive struggle to help kids genuinely understand concepts rather than just memorize them. A typical session starts with a quick hook to spark interest, moves into direct instruction paired with a visual or hands-on element, then guided practice where I'm actively checking in and letting the student work through a challenging problem with support close by. I close with a quick check for understanding, whether that's a few practice problems or having the student explain the concept back in their own words, so I know exactly what to revisit next time.
I work with elementary-age students (roughly K–5) across core subjects like math, reading, writing, and social studies. I'm currently completing my master's at the University of Bridgeport and have 2 years' worth of experience as a paraprofessional and building substitute, so I've spent real time in classrooms seeing what actually works. I'm comfortable adapting to a wide range of learners, including students with ADHD or other exceptionalities, and I meet kids wherever they are, whether they need extra support building confidence and foundational skills, or enrichment to stay challenged. What sets me apart is that I care as much about a student's confidence as their academic performance; my goal is for a student to leave every session feeling capable, not just having gotten through the material.
