About Leah
Kia ora! My name is Leah and I am a multi-instrumentalist from Aotearoa, New Zealand. I have years of experience teaching students ranging from absolute beginners to approaching college. I grew up in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and relocated to New York City in 2023 to study at the New School College of Performing Arts. I hold a Bachelor of Music with first class honors in classical clarinet performance from the New Zealand School of Music, a Master's in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship from the New School and am currently completing a diploma in composition at the New School. I have performed with the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, the New Zealand Youth Orchestra, the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, touring chamber ensembles, improvisation ensembles and more. In April 2025, I self-published my first book Meditations for Musicians - a musical guidebook for artists that centers creative confidence and joy.

I began as a classically-trained clarinettist and pianist but now have a much wider practice that includes composition and improvisation. I am currently a graduate student at the New School College of Performing Arts.
As a teacher, my focus is for my students to find joy and community in making music. With reference to all the important fundamentals, my job is to help you find your own voice and relationship to music! In our lessons we will develop your creative confidence by mastering the technical skills on your instruments and a deep listening practice. My teaching is specific to each student so our lesson plans and routine will be adapted to what you want to make / where you are in your music journey.
