About Laura
It is important to me to teach others about children with special needs as I am the mother of a seven-year-old boy with autism spectrum disorder, level one, and auditory processing disorder. Advocating for children is my passion and I want to teach and encourage others to have the same passion. I am currently working on my state licensure for Alabama, and I am working on becoming a school social worker and advocating for special education students in the county I live in.

In our lessons, we will begin with learning how important it is to meet children with physical and intellectual disabilities where they are. It is important to identify a child’s strengths and weaknesses and build upon them. Each child’s needs are different according to their home environment and their goals, and it is also important to include and identify the parent/caregivers' goals for their children. We have to identify any trauma bonds or traumatic instances that each child has endured and also advocate for their mental health.
