My lessons are broken into three 20-minute sections:
During the first 20 minutes, we identify what students are currently working on in school or their test-prep process, narrowing down a focus for the current tutoring session.
Next, I provide thorough instruction, either based on an assignment or to explain a concept the student would like to master. This is my info dump period where I may provide many different memorization techniques or writing methods because every student has unique needs, and the more strategies I provide, the more likely one will stick.
Finally, I take time to assess the student’s understanding of what we covered in-session, their confidence in their remaining homework moving forward, and their goals for studying before the next session.
This is far from a rigid structure and I readily encourage students who have different preferences or learning needs to set an agenda for the meeting. I am here to support any and every student I tutor, and learning is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor!
