About Manuel
I am a proud graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (London), and Jobra Professional School for the Performing Arts (Portugal). Currently teaching music full-time at Middlesex University and Hatcham College. I perform regularly playing the drums. I am an avid music listener and reader. The Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison is my favourite book, but for you thinking about starting or improving your Portuguese skills I would recommend Eça de Queirós and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen. Growing up, my family was extremely strict with the level I was expected to speak at in Portuguese, being raised from birth to always address people in the 3rd person, anyone from Portugal will let you know how strict that is! Student of mine or not, feel free to ask for reading suggestions in Portuguese.

A normal lesson will typically be 1 hou-long, although this can be adjusted to the student's preference and aim with the lesson. I have been teaching Portuguese to both native and foreign speakers on the side since the age of 18, also preparing students for exams in Portugal. The lessons can and will cover basic speaking skills up to more complex grammar, writing, formal and informal speaking (as a native would), and slang, all depending on the aim of the student. Brazilian Portuguese can also be covered at the student's discretion.

I was planning a recent trip to Portugal and wanted to learn how to communicate in Portuguese for my upcoming trip.
I found Manuel to be very helpful and patient in teaching me how to form grammatical structures and also with pronunciation! Very good teacher and would highly recommend 5/5I learnt so much while tutoring with Manuel, he allowed me to finally be able to learn a new language similar to mine (spanish) to communicate with others.
