About Khadijah
I recently graduated from a master's program in NYC! The school that I attended, Teachers College, Columbia University, is one of the best education schools in the country. But prior to holding a master's degree, I have worked with students since high school, where I volunteered to tutor students at local recreation centers in Washington, DC. After receiving a Posse Scholarship (a four year full tuition scholarship) to attend Lafayette College, I continued my volunteer work in Easton, PA. I taught elementary and middle school students English and History. During undergrad, I also worked as a Writing Associate, where I was paid to help other college students improve their writing abilities without simply giving them the solution, but guiding them toward it. I have experience working as an education intern at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. Last but not least, I've worked as a civics co-teacher at a Harlem high school. I've spent the last 6 years helping student improve their academic and I can't wait to help you!

Hi future students!
My name is Khadijah Akeem and I have a background in late 19th and 20th century history in both the United States and Africa. When teaching students, I emphasize the importance of word choice and information retention. Not only is it super important to learn new things, but what is the point of learning so much new information if we do not retain and use that information in the future. In an attempt to mitigate potential loss of information, I inform students about various methods like note taking, hand written/digital flash cards, and games to promote knowledge retention.
A typical lesson plan includes a warm up (to gauge a student's knowledge), an interactive lesson (usually a mini lecture, video, or reading), and an assessment (usually in the formate of a game or quiz).
As your tutor, I cannot guarantee you A's; only you can determine that. However, I can guarantee that you will be able to analyze and understand ANY text making you more knowledgeable than most. After our lessons together, you will be the top contender in your future applications to specialized high schools, internships, and college. After our lessons, you will excel inside and outside of school.
