About Tom
I am a career musician with a passion for the drums. I love to share my passion and teaching is a great way to do that. I also love to teach adults the drums. So many times in the past I've had parents tell me that it's "too late" for them to learn. This is nonsense. It's never too late to do something which you think will bring you joy.

I can do lessons either half an hour or an hour long. I have a strong focus on grooves and like to have students try to figure things out by ear. Reading music is a useful skill but too often I have seen grade students who have focussed too heavily on reading and feel less confident without sheet music in front of them. I also have a strong focus on rudiments. My lessons are for students of any level. I can teach the grades but it is not my main focus, nor should it be yours. I like to have my lessons be student-led and fun, I've seen a lot of former students demoralised by the grading system.
