About Jayda
Homegrown from the projects of southwestern Pennsylvania, Jayda Jones (she/her) is an energetic and synergistic creative multimedia director, producer, writer, and performer keen on offering equitable and safe spaces for collaboration, empathy, and experimentation in her work. Fascinated by the complexities of the human psyche intersected with explorations of subverting our subjective realities through philosophy and digital technology, Jayda is dedicated to telling stories that shatter monolithic perceptions of Black and Brown bodies in society, leading with femme identities. She wields her craft with a people-first, identity-reclaiming, authenticity-focused approach. Jayda most recently directed a 10 minute play she wrote titled a village for Theatre in Asylum in NYC. This year, she also directed a reading of a new choreoplay about reclaiming joy in Black womanhood + motherhood, called Belly and the Beast: An American Love Story, written by Dr. Haile Eshe Cole. She recently line-produced and assistant directed axes, herbs, and satchels with The Anthropologists, a new activist play about Black reproductive justice, which she also helped devise, and performed in previous iterations. She was Associate Director, Co-Producer, Props Manager, and Costume Designer for Leviathan Lab’s Production of MARIANAS TRENCH written by Scott C. Sickles. She also recently has directed two readings at THE TANK (Behind the Smile by Skyler Tarnas and Eddie Battles Evil by L.B. Kovetz), and participated in a staging workshop for an opera. She received a B.A. in Theatre Directing from Fordham University, where she directed two full-length productions, IS GOD IS by Aleshea Harris and JUMP by Charly Evon Simpson, as well as assistant directed and crewed many others. She is currently enrolled in graduate school in NYU Tisch’s Media Producing MA Program. In her free time outside of theatre, Jayda enjoys film, graphic design, and editing. She works Tribeca Film Festival and Hamptons International Film Festival as a Theater Manager, and volunteers for New Fest Film Festival. She also works as the Production Coordinator for children’s orchestra concerts. In addition to directing and producing, she writes and devises her own plays, and dedicates her artistry to exploring the dreams and experiences of Black femme bodies while uplifting BIPOC voices.
