About Roy
As a mathematics teacher, I strive to create an inclusive learning environment where students build not just computational skills but deep mathematical understanding. I believe in balancing procedural fluency with conceptual comprehension, helping students see mathematics as a coherent, connected discipline rather than isolated procedures. I focus on developing problem-solving abilities through careful questioning techniques that encourage students to articulate their thinking processes. I'm patient with misconceptions, using them as valuable learning opportunities rather than mistakes to be corrected. When teaching arithmetic and algebra specifically, I emphasize the underlying patterns and relationships that connect these areas. I regularly incorporate multiple representations (visual, symbolic, verbal, and concrete) to accommodate different learning styles and strengthen mathematical connections. I design lessons that progress from concrete examples to abstract concepts, ensuring students have solid foundational understanding before advancing to more complex ideas. I'm dedicated to making mathematics accessible and engaging for all students, using real-world applications and inquiry-based approaches to spark curiosity and demonstrate relevance.
