About Vera
I am originally from China and moved to Australia since Year 9. I have a strong understanding of both Chinese and Australian educational and cultural backgrounds. This helps me to connect with my students. Also, I’m doing a Master of teaching degree, this allows me to practice theories in real life and both of us can grow and learn. I believe the language is not the barrier for people to communicate, as long as using our hearts.

I. Basics of Phonetics Content Covered: The Pinyin system, including initials, finals, the four core tones, tone combinations, and essential tone change rules. Teaching Method: Instruction through teacher demonstration, visual aids, minimal pair drills, tongue twisters, and extensive listening & repetition exercises. Focus is on accurate pronunciation and overcoming the challenge of tones from the very beginning. II. Basics of Chinese Characters Content Covered: Introduction to the evolution and structure of characters (e.g., pictographs, ideographs), basic strokes, stroke order rules, and common radicals. Teaching Method: Characters are introduced using stories and imagery to make them memorable. Hands-on practice includes writing in grid notebooks and interactive activities like character puzzles to build recognition and writing skills. III. Accumulation of Vocabulary Content Covered: High-frequency vocabulary grouped by practical, everyday themes such as greetings, numbers, family, food, shopping, and transportation. Teaching Method: Thematic and contextual learning using flashcards, images, and real-life objects. New words are always practiced within sentences and short dialogues to move beyond memorization to practical usage. IV. Grammar Teaching Content Covered: Foundational grammar points including word order (S-V-O), question formation, negation, measure words, 是 (shì) and 有 (yǒu) sentences, and the use of time words. Teaching Method: An inductive approach where students learn grammar rules through examples and patterns. Practice is provided through sentence restructuring, fill-in-the-blank exercises, and building sentences from prompts to solidify understanding. V. Conversation Practice Content Covered: Practical dialogue scenarios that integrate everything learned in previous modules, such as self-introductions, asking for directions, ordering food, and describing daily routines. Teaching Method: Focus on output and fluency through role-playing, situational simulations, pair work, and guided discussions. This module creates a low-pressure environment to build confidence and conversational competence.
