About Céline
Hello! My name is Celine. I am French but I lived for a long time in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. From 2010 to 2008 I trained as a French teacher there and gave lessons in college but also led many courses for adults and finally opened my private tutoring business in 2013. We can say that languages are my passion: French is my mother tongue, but I have a good command of Dutch as well as English and I speak and also understand a little Spanish. I am interested in painting, cinema, various forms of theatrical art, dance, French, Dutch and English literature, sports, travel and intercultural exchanges of all kinds enchant me. Committed My ethical and political convictions often allow spontaneous discussions of all kinds during lessons. Teacher Mistakes are necessary to learn and active learning (based on examples and practice) often works much more effectively than theoretical analysis. “It is by forging that one becomes a blacksmith” and the why unfortunately only helps sometimes. Repeating is natural to me because I am patient by nature. I also find it important to use humor in my teaching, it is also a way of remembering things better. I give advice on materials, practical tips and the pace of learning to try to achieve self-employment whenever possible. Humanist and idealist I do my best to be cooperative and helpful to my clients, to make my contribution to the world. I consider learning a foreign language as an activity of relaxation and fun, even in the case of professional learning. I offer free access to material on the web or through digital documents that I send. Perfectionist I prefer to give grammar explanations with as many practical exercises as possible. I try to always have an explanation ready to give and if necessary, I look for a particular answer for the next lesson. Reasoning is of course not always necessary and sometimes it turns out to be just "like that". I always prepare my lessons to measure to allow a fluid teaching and I send each time personalized homework. Creative I use multiple resources (music, newspapers, poetry, images, short films, literature, etc.) and I always have them handy on my computer. I think improvising is important: I don't always follow my lesson plan if it turns out that the learning process requires adjustment. For those who need structure, it is also possible to work with learning manuals. Sensitive and open I feel and think with you, I don't ask too intrusive questions and 'no' is always an acceptable answer. I also share my story and am constantly looking for a balance in exchanges.
