About Patrick
I spent decades applying my academic and work experience to a variety of situations as a practicing graduate engineer. I have also done part-time teaching in a variety of settings (both high school and community college), and have helped a number of students and people in the workplace to reach academic goals which would provide them with a greater range of opportunities. I have also tutored a number of high school students for whom the in-class instruction was not adequate to instill a proper understanding of subjects, and have helped students to pass AP Math exams. I like to engage with students, and am eager to hear about their interests and long-term goals in order to tailor the instruction so that what they learn aligns as well as possible with those interests and goals.

New topics are introduced through description of the concept and applicable methods and techniques. Topics are reinforced through examples with attention to and description of pitfalls, common mistakes and memory aids. Student progress and understanding are monitored through verbal interaction (questions related to descriptions, methods and techniques), projects, homework and assessments (either oral or written, depending). My instruction is adapted to be especially helpful to students who might have come up against an "understanding barrier" and need a breakthrough, as well as those who need to feel confident enough to proceed to the next higher level of instruction or pass a critical exam milestone.
