Objective: Students will learn what a story setting is, why it is important, and how to identify or create an effective setting in a story.
1. What is a Story Setting?
The setting of a story is where and when the events take place. It includes:
Place: A specific location (e.g., a castle, a city, a forest).
Time: The period in which the story occurs (e.g., past, present, future, daytime, nighttime).
Environment: Weather, mood, and atmosphere (e.g., stormy night, cheerful summer day).
2. Why is Setting Important?
Creates the mood (e.g., a dark alley creates suspense).
Influences the characters’ actions and decisions.
Helps the reader imagine the story’s world.
3. Identifying Setting in a Story
Ask yourself:
Where is the story happening?
When is it happening?
What details describe the surroundings?
