About Eleanor
My philosophy as a piano educator is to make the piano feel like a friend—one that can challenge you, comfort you, inspire you, and grow with you throughout your life. I teach with a mix of structure and spontaneity, emphasizing strong technique—such as accurate hand position, consistent rhythm, and expressive touch—while allowing space for curiosity and personal expression. Every student receives a custom-tailored path based on their goals. Beginners start by building foundational skills through games, call-and-response exercises, rote pieces, and eventually easy-reading repertoire. For older students or those with prior experience, we dive deeper into shaping tone, analyzing form, and developing a clear interpretive voice. I value process over perfection, and I help students set realistic goals and understand how to measure progress in a healthy, motivating way. A memorable teaching moment involved a young adult student who struggled with motivation during a particularly difficult academic year; we shifted focus to include film scores and improvisation based on movie scenes, which reignited their love for playing and gave them a creative outlet. I bring in a variety of tools: recordings, apps for rhythm and ear training, duet playing for timing and phrasing, and even visualization techniques to improve mental practice. I also love helping students write and notate their own compositions, which we often perform or record as part of studio projects. Whether you want to play at home, perform on stage, or explore your creative potential, I aim to make lessons feel like a journey where the student always has agency, support, and inspiration.

In my piano teaching, I strive to build a nurturing and inspiring space where students of all ages can grow their technical skills and develop a deep love for music. I see each student as a unique individual, so I tailor lessons to their personality, learning pace, and musical goals.
My teaching balances rigorous attention to technique—such as finger independence, hand position, rhythm, and sight-reading—with creative, expressive activities including improvisation, composition, and exploration of various genres. I prioritize helping students understand the ‘why’ behind the music by connecting theory concepts like harmony and scales to pieces they are learning. I also emphasize the importance of effective practice, sharing strategies that help students stay motivated and make the most of their time at the keyboard. Technology is woven into lessons through recording for self-assessment and apps for ear training and rhythm, making learning interactive and measurable.
I enjoy sharing stories of musicians and composers to inspire students and contextualize their learning. One of my most fulfilling teaching moments was watching a student gain confidence after overcoming early struggles with hand coordination, ultimately performing in a school concert with enthusiasm and pride. My goal is to support students in becoming confident, expressive pianists who find joy and fulfillment in their musical journey, equipped with skills and passion that will last a lifetime.
