About Matthew
I am a research scientist who completed my PhD two years ago. I completed my Ph.D at Texas A&M University where I was given some fantastic teaching opportunities.This included teaching classes on fundamentals of geophysics, and petrology (using microscopes to identify minerals in rocks).
Furthermore, I have experience in leading my own research group, which I did for two years. Students were able to come and work with me to gain research experience, where I could also teach them about the theory of my PhD project.
I now work as a researcher for a geotechnical company working with radars to help monitor infrastructure.

My teaching methodology varies on the students needs. Students tend to learn in different ways and I look to find the best way of teaching for an individual student. My initial approach is usually to form a more relaxed environment with open discussion on the subject, following by practical examples and working through problems together, I also try and bring real world meaning to the curriculum whenever possible however I can adapt my teaching
My lessons are 1 hour long as a standard, but I can make time for longer sessions if needed. My lessons are inline with the students current curriculum as this provides the the most comfortable and streamlined way of learning, with my lessons supplementing school materials. My preference is to teach at GCSE and A-Level standards although I am open to other levels.
I have a Ph.D, MGeophys and BSc in geophysics, an applied science with heavy focus on mathematics, applied physics, earth sciences and computing (Python, Fortran).
