About Ben
I was a teacher for quite a few years, primarily in a K-8 setting. In my years as a teacher, I was primarily a technology instructor, working with all students in the school. In that capacity, I was also partially responsible for school technology support. Instruction included keyboarding, graphics, illustration, audio, video, photo editing, introductory programming, basic game design, research, core Microsoft and similar programs, web design, and computer science.
I also did function in other roles including health instructor, coach, substitute teacher, dean of students, summer school, curriculum development, kindergarten, and science teacher. Fun fact: I have a moderate understanding of some Algonquin language and culture and had strong involvement in developing instructional material, particularly technology-based material, in support of Native American language and culture. In addition to that I have been involved in various youth-based community and civics groups.
Over the past several years, I have been working in the technology sphere. Development of concepts, art, 3d models, and animations for virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality experiences, games, and applications. Commonly using programs like Unity, Blender, Inkscape, Paint.net, and Gimp. With some additional experience in project management and facilitation. Various types of writing for users, clients, stakeholders, and documentation. I have worked with various clients in education, manufacturing, medicine, game industry, and production covering a wide range of skill sets. The most recent large project that I was working on was with a startup where I would use medical dicom files, primarily in ITK Snap, to produce STLs. Using Blender and Blender Python to process and modify STLs into appropriate parameters and formats for use with medical applications and client use with an emphasis on VR/XR with primary use on the Hololens 2 and with full automation. Varied testing as well as additional work as a tester developer, working with CAD and hand-designed construction and building in a number of industries.
I have also been involved in API development and testing in the agricultural sphere.
