About Thomas
I have over 10 years experience and over 10,000 hours of delivering transformative 1:1 academic intervention work with young people from Primary School age all the way up to Higher Education.
Many of those hours were spent working in secondary schools settings across Manchester and London to deliver 1:1 Maths tuition to students outside of the classroom environment. I have a track record of delivering consistently exceptional outcomes in terms of academic engagement, attainment and confidence.
Other roles including developing and delivery radical pedagogical models for transitioning students in a Universities, and years spent working as a creative outreach mentor with hard to reach young people.
In my current daytime role i contract for various local authorities in South London to deliver 1:1 maths tuition and often more complex academic and pastoral intervention with young people who are currently out of school either due to Expulsion, mental/physical health issues or due being in process of transition from mainstream to and SEN setting.
This diverse set of experiences has resulted in me establishing a broad set of reliable skills and methodologies that I draw from to ensure that each students uniques needs are able to be assessed and addressed in a holistic and complete way.

One of the strengths of my unique pedagogical style - developed over many years of me teaching maths in 1:1 settings - is that I am able to holistically assess and identify the needs and wants of each student and confidently adapt the style and rhythm of our session to suit those unique needs. For many students the most effective approach is a relatively simple one. Identify which topics need to be taught/retaught, which topics need to be refined or built upon, and which topics need to be drilled and perfected. Then for each of these 3 categories there are different teacher modes depending on the needs of the learner.
Some will find that structuring the learning, refining and drilling process around past papers and past paper questions to be the most straightforward and effective model, ultimately creating fluency with the type of questions they will face in there exam through mass repeated exposure in a closely supported structure.
Others may require mathematical ideas to be abstracted from the normative exam style format in order to grasp concepts and then gradually be moved closer to the type of language and question style they will face in the exam.
Whatever your unique needs may be, I will design a programme that will help you reach your highest potential and hopefully enjoy the process too!
