About Lee
I am Lee—an educator, youth worker, and occasional philosopher, though mostly of the “why have I walked into this room?” variety. For over three decades, I have dedicated myself to guiding young people, not with lofty intellectualism or tedious drivel about exam technique, but with patience, encouragement, and the firm belief that everyone—yes, even you—has potential waiting to be unleashed. My own education has been a peculiar adventure. I hold a BA in English and Philosophy (because nothing says “hire me” like a degree in asking unanswerable questions). More importantly, I have amassed a collection of real-world qualifications through St John Ambulance, where I serve as the Community Development Lead for North Staffordshire. From first aid to conflict resolution, emergency response to mentoring, I have spent years learning how to stay calm in chaos—an invaluable skill when working with students who would rather be anywhere but studying. In my twenties, I travelled the world, gathering stories, experiences, and an alarming number of questionable meals. I’ve worked with young people from every imaginable background, each with their own strengths, struggles, and spectacularly creative excuses for avoiding work. What I’ve learned is that “academic” is just a word. You do not need to be top of the class to succeed. You just need someone who will listen, support you, and help you figure things out in a way that makes sense to you. Outside of education, I am a devoted fan of theatre, where life’s grand absurdities are embraced rather than corrected. This love of performance shapes my teaching—lessons should be engaging, learning should feel like discovery, and no student should ever be made to feel small. I am straightforward, slightly eccentric, and entirely committed to helping you find confidence in yourself, whether you’re mastering a subject or simply looking for guidance on your next steps. If you’re after a tutor who will recite textbooks at you in a monotone, I’m afraid I shall be a terrible disappointment. But if you want someone who will encourage you, support you, and occasionally make you laugh in the process, then we shall get along just fine.

# **My Approach to Tutoring** I don’t claim to be an all-knowing expert, but I **do** know what works and what doesn’t when it comes to learning English. My goal isn’t to lecture or overload students with information—it’s to **help them find their flow**, develop their ideas, and improve their writing in a way that makes sense to them. # **How I Teach** **Building on What’s Already There** – I help students see what’s working in their writing and **how to make it even better**. **No Pressure, No Judgement** – Every student works at their own pace, and I adapt to their needs. **Encouraging Confidence** – I guide students in **finding their own voice**, so they feel more sure of themselves in writing and exams. **A Supportive Space for All Learners** – As someone who is **autistic myself**, I understand the importance of making learning **accessible, stress-free, and clear**. I work with students who are **neurodivergent and neurotypical alike**. # **Lesson Structure** **Lesson Length:** Usually 1 hour, but I can adjust to suit attention span and learning needs. **What We Do:** I help with **essay writing, structuring ideas, text analysis, comprehension, and exam techniques**. **Subjects Covered:** GCSE English Language & Literature, plus support for university students in related subjects. **Who I Teach:** Ages **5 to 18**, as well as **university students** who need extra support. # **My Experience & Qualifications** **BA (Hons) in English & Philosophy** **MA in Philosophy** **Years of experience working with young people, including those with autism** **Background in youth work, mentoring, and restorative justice** 🩺 **St John Ambulance volunteer—trained in first aid and conflict resolution** If you or your child need **a patient, supportive tutor** who will **work with you, not against you**, I’m here to help.
