About Cristiana
I am a passionate tutor of GCSE and A-level English literature and language, with ample experience teaching a range of secondary level texts (KS3 and AQA GCSE & A-Level). Having worked with students of varying ability levels, my teaching approach is multi-faceted and malleable to each tutee in order to ensure maximum engagement and best results!! My teaching approach is well-rounded and has been developed working on placement at secondary school level. Working with other passionate teachers meant that I was able to adapt and, where it demanded, reconstruct my own teaching style. I’m other words, I “borrowed” a lot of “ideas” from my fellow colleagues ;))) I love teaching because I am passionate about English and want to inspire and push the youth to become the best version of themselves!!!

My lesson structure: My lessons are very student-focused, as I believe private tutoring is an extension of school - my job is not necessarily to teach the content (because that has already been done by your school teachers), but rather to enhance your understanding and encourage you to form insightful and coherent ideas. This means that I structure my lessons depending on what each student needs. Eg. some students may need more exam writing help, whilst others may struggle with planning their answers. I usually begin with a starter activity. This will either test your knowledge on things we covered last lesson or general literary technique comprehension. For the main body of the lesson, I will teach the topic at hand, making sure to ask you questions and hold discussions and debates about different views. This is for me to ensure that you are fully engaged with the text and also promote the creation of perceptive ideas. This also informs me on topics and ideas you are unsure of. Near the end of the lesson, I will usually look at relevant exam questions and even work on one together so that you are able to see the process of writing paragraphs. Again, this task can be changed based on your needs - for example, I find that A-level students don’t really need paragraph writing help. I do hand out homework and I dedicate a lot of time to marking and giving feedback! Hopefully, I will be your next tutor! I cannot wait to meet you!!! :)
