About Fey
As an English teacher with over a decade of experience, I am dedicated to inspiring confidence and fostering a positive learning environment. Having been an English learner since 1996 and a French learner since 2017, I understand the challenges and triumphs that come with mastering a new language. My journey as a teacher began in 2011, and since then, I have specialized in IELTS instruction since 2018, achieving an IELTS Speaking score of 8 and a mock score of 8.5 in 2019.
I hold a Cambridge CELTA certification, awarded in 2024 with an above-standard pass in Canada. This qualification reflects my commitment to professional development and excellence in teaching. Additionally, I loved teaching at Tamwood summer camps at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in 2024, where I had the amazing opportunity to further enhance my skills and share my knowledge with the lovely ESL students.
My teaching methodology emphasizes building strong rapport and creating a supportive atmosphere. I utilize Cambridge Touchstone and Viewpoint books, complemented by standard readings from my favorite Pearson books and short BBC podcasts, to ensure a well-rounded approach that develops all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The most special thing about the classes are the special “Vocabulary Chart with Fey” method that will help you use new words confidently and never in an awkward way and speak and write more fluently while feeling less confused when you read or listen to English! Isn’t that great?
I cater to a diverse range of students, from ages 7 to over 60, and have successfully taught general English and IELTS preparation. My deep understanding of the language, clear pronunciation, and unwavering patience set me apart as a tutor. I am committed to helping each student achieve their language goals with confidence and skill.

My Tutoring Approach
As an experienced tutor, my approach centers around building a strong rapport with my students and fostering a supportive learning environment. I utilize Cambridge Touchstone and Viewpoint books, along with standard readings and BBC podcasts, to ensure a well-rounded development of all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. My methodology emphasizes practical application and engagement, allowing students to connect with the material meaningfully.
With more than 10 years of experience, I know how to adapt lessons to the individual needs of the student. No two students are the same and no two lessons should be the same either.
I like to have an initial meeting with all students to look over past work, discuss tutoring goals, and get to know each other. This way I can formulate an individual plan for each student.
I teach all ages, from primary years to IELTSl. It's been such a pleasure to teach all age ranges, it's given me a wealth of experience and adaptability.
I cater to a diverse range of learners, from students aged 7 to individuals in their 60s. My experience encompasses teaching general English to those seeking fluency, as well as focused IELTS preparation for writing and speaking. I have successfully supported students at various levels, tailoring my lessons to meet their specific needs and goals. Many of my students have scored 8 in the IELTS!
With my background as an English learner since 1996, an English teacher since 2011, and an IELTS instructor since 2018, and an above standard pass in CELTA among Canadian teachers in 2024, I am committed to helping my students achieve their language objectives with confidence and skill.

Details
Free 30-minute trial: This session is a placement test and planning meeting — there will be no actual teaching. I’ll assess your level, explain my special vocabulary-chart method to build confident speaking, and show the Cambridge-based materials I use (or IELTS/CELPIP materials if that’s your target). By the end you’ll receive a personalised study plan and course recommendations to begin your lessons.
Please note: my standard in-person/test-prep rate is higher than my online fee. To support students, I’m offering classes here on this application for $25 per hour (regularly $40/hr in person).
