About Kris
Teaching is all I've really ever wanted to do. I've taught many things over the years, but language has always been a passion.
My own mother came to Canada with her parents and siblings in the 1950s, and my earliest ESL teaching was as a child, helping my grandparents as they struggled with English.
Today, I teach private language classes of various types in Canada and China, and serve as part-time faculty at Durham College.
I'm flexible in providing lessons at your home or mine, or online via Zoom.

Language is challenging, and English more so than most. My focus is on building real-world skills based on each student's individual needs. Sometimes, this is response-based, such as listening to an ESL learner's areas of difficulty. At other times, it's based on a student's expressed goals.
Lessons include:
- review of past learning
- impromptu and prepared speaking
- impromptu and prepared writing in multiple styles
- reading, including comprehension - direct and inferred, diction, grammar, vocabulary and more
- lessons are individually customized from ages 4 through adult
Why I'm special: my unique listening skills help me to easily note and address each area's specific needs in a way that's supporting, fun, and productive.
