About James
With Latin, I have a rather unconventional background. I am not a classicist by training, but I have studied it to an advanced level and use it frequently to inform my creative writing and teaching of biology.
I’m interested in making all students adopt a lifelong approach to learning and growth. I teach English literature & language, Biology and Latin. I also teach Chemistry and Maths. Beyond teaching, I have training in intentional peer support, via a mental health charity. I have taught in pro-rata contracts for GCSE students at a secondary school. I also teach international students, according to different time zones.

I am passionate about the intersection of classics and natural sciences. Therefore, I often tutor in a way that stimulates creative and critical thinking.
I teach the OCR and Cambridge syllabi for GCSE/A Level. I also have many years of experience in helping students attain the standard expected from Common Entrance/CASE/13+ entrance exams for leading independent schools. I also teach adult learners.
I tailor my lessons according to the student’s goals and needs. I striveto make the syllabus as relevant to their lives as possible and I believe in holistic development, as well as academic success. In my lessons, I help students learn how to be more precise, support them through past paper levels of difficulty and help them make the subject their own.
