My approach as a tutor is centered around creating a supportive, engaging, and personalized learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing confidence, and achieving their academic goals. I believe that every student learns differently, so I tailor my teaching methodology to each individual's learning style, strengths, and areas for improvement. Rather than focusing solely on memorization, I emphasize understanding core concepts, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills so that students can apply their knowledge independently and confidently.
My teaching techniques typically involve breaking down complex topics into simple, manageable concepts, using real-world examples and analogies, and encouraging active participation throughout the lesson. I regularly assess understanding through guided practice questions, discussions, and short knowledge checks to ensure students are following along and retaining the material. I also provide constructive feedback and study strategies that students can use outside of tutoring sessions.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous material and any questions the student may have. From there, I introduce new concepts, work through examples together, and gradually transition to independent practice while providing guidance as needed. I like to end each session with a summary of key takeaways, areas for further practice, and a plan for the next lesson.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my diverse teaching and mentoring background. I began as a Kumon Instructor teaching mathematics to elementary and middle school students, later became a Private Tutor teaching both mathematics and English, and most recently served as an Associate Mentor with the Global Ideas Institute, where I mentored high school student teams through year-long research projects and presentations to academics, industry professionals, and investors. In addition, I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme with Higher Level Biology and Chemistry and earned a Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc) in Biotechnology from the University of Toronto. This combination of teaching experience, mentorship, and academic training allows me to explain concepts clearly while helping students develop confidence, discipline, and independent learning skills.
My lessons are suitable for elementary, middle school, and high school students seeking support in biology, general science, mathematics, English, research skills, academic writing, and university admissions preparation. I am particularly well-equipped to support students in high school Biology, middle school Science, and students following academically rigorous curricula such as the IB programme. Whether a student is aiming to improve grades, prepare for exams, strengthen foundational knowledge, or develop long-term study skills, I strive to provide personalized guidance that helps them succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
