About Ivonne
I'm Ivonne — a physicist with a PhD and fifteen years of experience helping university and high school students make sense of physics, mathematics, statistics, and programming. I'm based in Brisbane, Australia. I teach in English and Spanish.
I know these subjects have a reputation for being impossibly hard. And honestly, sometimes they are. But in my experience, most students who struggle aren't lacking ability — they just haven't had the concepts explained in a way that connects with how they think.
That's exactly what I focus on in our sessions. I don't rush through material to cover the syllabus. I find the explanation that works for you and stick with it until the concept clicks — because once it does, everything that follows becomes so much easier.

My lessons are built around one core idea: understanding the concept, not just the calculation.
Physics and mathematics make sense when you see why something works — not just how to apply a formula. In every session, we slow down on the concepts that matter, work through the reasoning together, and I stay with an idea until it genuinely clicks for you. I adapt to your thinking style, your pace, and your current level — so every lesson feels like it was designed for you specifically, because it was.
What to expect in a typical lesson:
Sessions are usually 60 minutes, though I also offer 90-minute sessions for students who want to cover more ground or work through complex problems in depth. We begin by identifying exactly where you are and what is getting in the way — then we work through material using clear explanations, worked examples, visual reasoning, and targeted problem-solving practice. I do not move on until you are confident with what we have covered.
My qualifications and experience:
I hold a PhD in Physics and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, and I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy — a formal recognition of teaching excellence. I spent seven years as a university lecturer teaching quantum mechanics, mathematical physics, and applied mathematics. I have tutored students privately for over fifteen years, with students from Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, and Colombia, at every level from high school through to postgraduate.
Who my lessons are for:
My lessons suit high school students preparing for QCE, IB, or A-Level physics and mathematics, university students working through undergraduate or postgraduate courses in physics, mathematics, statistics, or data science, and adult learners building Python or data science skills for professional purposes. I work with complete beginners and advanced students equally — the approach changes, the commitment to understanding does not.
Languages: I teach in English and Spanish.
