About Emily
Music is my lifelong passion - I've been playing instruments for over 35 years - and I love to share my knowledge and skills with others. I have changed my career path and have built up a busy music tutoring business. I am so excited to be starting my Master's MEd in Music Education through Trinity Laban Conservatoire this year. My musical qualifications include:
- Postgraduate Certificate in Woodwind Teaching
- DipABRSM diploma (distinction) in instrumental teaching (flute) - ARSM performance diploma in flute
- ATCL diploma in saxophone
- ABRSM grade 8 distinction in flute, saxophone and treble recorder - ABRSM grade 8 in piano and clarinet - ABRSM grade 6 music theory I also have two degrees from the University of Glasgow (BSc and MBChB hons) and worked in a professional role prior to becoming a music tutor. I have studied psychology and child development. I am also a Mum myself so have experience with children. I am a member of the Disclosure Scotland PVG scheme. I have enjoyed playing musical instruments for as long as I can remember and have over 35 years playing experience. When I was younger I played in my county youth orchestra and I was leader of my county concert band. More recently I played in a flute ensemble. I enjoy composing original pieces and arranging music for various instruments. I have recently had an original work for flute ensemble published and have written several pieces for solo piano. If there are any pieces/songs that students would like to play, I am able to write arrangements appropriate to their level of playing.

Hi I'm Emily, a music tutor based in Glasgow Southside. I offer music tuition in students' homes in G53 and surrounding areas, including Crookston, Paisley, Barrhead, Giffnock and Newton Mearns. I can also offer online lessons in woodwind. I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Woodwind Teaching and the DipABRSM diploma (distinction) in instrumental teaching (flute). I am starting my Master's degree MEd through Trinity Laban Conservatoire this year. I teach flute (from age 8) and recorder (from age 6) for complete beginners to the advanced grades. I teach saxophone beginners to grade 5. I also teach music theory up to grade 5 and aural up to grade 8. My rates are competitive and include travel to your home. I am a kind and patient individual with excellent communication and organisational skills. My priority is to make you feel at ease and that you enjoy your lessons! Lesson prices - £20 for 30 min £28 for 45 min £36 for 60 min Lessons can be purely for fun and/or to work towards music exams through ABRSM (all instruments) or Rockschool (piano). Lessons are tailor-made to the individual student and can incorporate a wide range of musical styles as well as learning theory, improvisation and aural skills. Why play the recorder....? The recorder is so much more than the little plastic descant recorder that we associate with small children and, let's face it, not the most pleasant sound! Played well, the recorder is a beautiful and versatile instrument. Many baroque composers wrote for recorder, including Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Telemann, but nowadays there is a plethora of sheet music for recorder in all styles including modern, film scores and jazz. The recorder is a fantastic first instrument for beginners. It is cheap, durable, easy to maintain and lightweight to hold making it excellent for young children as well as those who don't want to invest too much in the cost of an instrument. It is easy to make a sound and the basic fingering is easy to learn, meaning you'll be playing proper tunes in no time. The recorder is also a great starter instrument for students who want to go on to play other wind instruments such as flute or clarinet.

Excellent teacher, very patient, encouraging. As an older student, I have felt very comfortable getting back into playing again with Emily.
Emily is an absolutely fantastic teacher! I would highly recommend her. Lessons have went so well with Emily teaching my son, she is now teaching my daughter too!. A lovely approach and makes her students feel comfortable and I can honestly say my children love their music lessons and really look forward to them.
Emily has been a fantastic tutor. She is very knowledgeable and very patient. I played flute when I was younger and have come back as an adult learner starting from scratch again.
