About Karena
Hello! My name is Karena. I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I am currently living in Cali, Colombia.
My native language is English, and I speak French and Spanish. I am a former lawyer, with a Bachelors of Law and Bachelors of Arts(Languages). I have experience teaching English in Colombia to students aged 5 to 18, as well as providing advanced English classes to the local English Teachers. I have experience assisting students prepare for their IELTS and Cambridge exams. I previously tutored French to university students in Australia. I am passionate about helping students improve their skills and knowledge.
I love to travel, make friends from around the world, learn new languages and cultures, dance, hike, ski and practice yoga. I’m interested in learning about history, politics, linguistics and anthropology. I enjoy watching foreign films, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Australian English: Are you planning to visit Australia for travel, study or work? I can help you learn Australian slang, idioms and to become accustomed to the accent. I can teach you about Australian culture and give you advice about living in Australia.
Studying in English: I have completed over 6 years of study at a university level in Australia. I can help you to understand the study expectations of an Australian University, teach you academic English and assist you to improve your essay writing skills in English.
Business English: I have over 6 years working in the legal services industry in Australia. I have an excellent command of the English language and can teach you business and legal vocabulary, how to write emails, reports and other professional communications, how to best communicate verbally in a professional setting, and cultural subtleties.
Applying for Jobs: I can help you to prepare your CV and cover letter to apply for jobs in Australia and other English-speaking countries.
IELTS: I can help you prepare for all four parts of the IELTS exam, speaking, listening, writing and reading. I have a sound understanding of the requirements for the IELTS exam and have assisted students to prepare for the exam.
Australian Law/ Common Law System: I completed a Bachelor of Laws in Melbourne. If you are planning to study law in Australia or another English-speaking country, I can teach you about the Common Law Legal System, teach you legal vocabulary, how to write legal assignments and prepare for exams.
