About Helen
I believe that effective learning happens when students are enjoying themselves. My aim is to help students achieve top marks that reflect the best of their abilities, while ensuring that they enjoy the process as much as possible.
I have recently completed a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and I draw on research about education and learning as well as my experience to tailor my approach for each individual. I am experienced in helping students to overcome exam stress and other barriers to learning. By working with students' strengths I promote increased confidence and independence.
Sessions are based on the needs of the student, and can range from general support with the curriculum and study skills (e.g. essay writing, developing scientific thinking etc.) to intensive exam preparation sessions, drawing on a whole host of highly effective revision techniques. Exam technique is crucial, and I am experienced in AQA (A), AQA (B), Edexcel and OCR.
For undergraduate students, I give clear instruction on academic writing style. Most students know that they have to be clear, concise and critical, but many don't know how to do this. Once learned, these skills will stand students in good stead for all other academic writing, for their degree and beyond. I can also help with statistics and SPSS.

Please note: I work full time as an educational psychologist (which I love!) but I continue to offer a small number of tutoring sessions because I enjoy it so much. What I am offering here is psychology tuition NOT educational psychology involvement. If you are looking for educational psychology involvement I recommend first speaking to your school teacher or Special Educational Needs Coordinator.
