About Preksha
I am currently taking a gap year and am going to study dentistry in September 2021. Haven taken biology, chemistry and physics for A-levels, I have a good understanding of the best revision methods for science-based subjects and have previously tutored several students across a range of subjects, from maths to French, whether it be in a school environment or as a part-time job.

I have two main teaching methods:
1. Go through the specification, teaching all of the topics (or at least areas you struggle on) lesson-by-lesson: I first break down the main concepts, making notes in real time using my iPad and Apple Pencil, so that you have pre-made notes by the end of the lesson, saving time on having to write your own notes. These of course will be sent to you so that you can refer to them for revision. Near the end of the lesson, I will set a few questions to test what you’ve just learned and also set you homework to consolidate your knowledge. Writing notes is of course not my only revision method, but I believe having a good set of notes is important on topics you don’t fully understand.
2. Do exam questions on areas you struggle on: if you feel you don’t need to go over basic topics and are struggling with exam technique, we can definitely practise that. Prior to each lesson, I will prepare questions from a range of sources, including textbook exam questions as well as questions from the exam board. I can first explain the different types of questions you’ll encounter and how to answer each one, so that you become confident and prepared when it comes to any question in the exam. Homework will also be set weekly.
These are just rough guidelines on how I can structure a lesson, but of course, I am happy to do whatever the student wants to cover each lesson: one day could be filled with learning a particularly tricky topic, while another could just be practising exam technique.
However, I believe the most important factor is consistency, regardless of what exam subject you’re studying for. Prioritise long-term knowledge over short-term, meaning study a bit every day rather than cramming and overworking yourself.
If you are looking for a tutor to study with for a while, I can prepare a weekly plan, depending on how long you want lessons for, so that each lesson is organised and covers everything you want to learn.
I also ensure you regularly revisit harder topics so that you reinforce your knowledge - this method is known as spaced repetition. Paired along with active recall methods, such as flash cards and closed book exercises, these two revision methods are some of the most effective as it forces your brain to retrieve information from your long-term memory, hence it will become easier and easier to recall information in the future.
