About Miriam
I started exploring fiddle music at 12 with guidance from Bobbie Pearce and Katrina Nicolayeff, and expanded my skills with the Idaho Junior Jammer Fiddle Group. Competing in fiddle contests, including the National Old-time Fiddle Contest in Weiser, Idaho, was a significant part of my journey.
A pivotal moment came when Bobbie gifted me a 1965 Gibson J-45 guitar, named Hank, which became central to my passion for singing and songwriting.
In high school, I participated in Jazz Band, Orchestra, Jazz Choir, and continued with the Idaho Junior Jammers, while being influenced by Lana Del Rey’s artistry.
I studied violin set-up and repair with David Hoffman at Dorsey Music, deepening my understanding of musical instruments and craftsmanship.
At Berklee College of Music, I earned a Bachelor of Songwriting degree, influenced by professors like Kevin Barry, Jane Potter, and others. I have experience teaching fiddle accompaniment (Texas-style backup), pop, and fingerstyle guitar, among other styles.
In 2023, I performed at the Berklee Arranging for Songwriters Showcase and collaborated with Berklee's Roots department for the National Old-time Fiddle Contest's 70th Anniversary. My recent single, “Viridian Eyes,” co-written with Andie Mechanic, marks the start of my ongoing musical exploration.

Creativity and self-expression are vital to any instrument. The greatest musicians are those who:
1. Learn the rules
2. Follow the rules
3. Break the rules
My teaching blends the foundational theory I gained at Berklee with an emphasis on practical, enjoyable practice. By focusing on consistent, quality practice and fostering a deep love for music, I strive to help each student (Beginner-Intermediate) unlock their potential, overcome challenges, and most importantly, enjoy the process of becoming a musician.
I have developed a curriculum that breaks down into 5 levels for beginners and 5 levels for intermediate players. I apply the theory I learned at Berklee across various genres and instruments and value consistent, quality practice. Technique, in my view, should be learned through enjoyable playing.
Ultimately, my goal is to guide students in exploring their musical creativity and turning their playing into a unique and fulfilling expression of themselves.
