About Alex

I am a guitarist who is especially good at hymn songs (improvisational playing without score and different keys), organized concerts, and wedding performances, and I have been a worship leader in my church for over 15 years. I have been teaching ukulele and guitar in the community. In 2017, I took part in Guinness World Records which is the largest ukulele ensemble, I taught over 200 elderly and children to get this achievement together. I understood more about the power of music to positively impact our community.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

My passion for music began in church. I wanted to worship God through music — not just sing, but accompany myself and lead worship independently.

The guitar attracted me because it is portable, expressive, and versatile. I could sing, accompany, and perform almost anywhere. It became both an instrument of worship and a lifelong companion.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop?

I enjoy guitar solos, fingerstyle arrangements, and playing guitar in a piano-like way — using harmony and melody together.

I often listen to instrumental music repeatedly because it helps calm my mind and express emotions that words cannot fully describe. For me, music is a way to find inner peace.
  • Explain the most difficult lesson you give students.

The most challenging situation is when a student only wants technical improvement but has no musical preference, no inner drive, and no desire to create or arrange music.

Without personal connection to music, progress becomes mechanical.

When students do not practice consistently or dislike repetition, I adjust by:

    - preparing material based on what they enjoy
    - introducing new styles to spark curiosity
    - helping them discover a sound they truly connect with

Once they find ownership in music, discipline becomes natural.
  • What is the most complicated instrument to master?

I believe the guitar is one of the most “easy to start, hard to master” instruments.

Many people self-learn through imitation and assume copying is mastery. But without proper guidance, tone control, timing, dynamics, and musical understanding are often limited.

True mastery requires depth, not just familiarity.
  • What are your keys to success?

I believe in practice — consistent and intentional practice.

“Practice makes progress” is more accurate than perfection.

I value joy in learning. The guitar is not just an instrument; it is a lifelong friend. If music does not bring joy, technique alone is empty.
  • Three musicians you dream of meeting

    1. Tommy Emmanuel – for his expressive fingerstyle mastery and musical freedom.

    2. 鄭晟河 – for his early dedication and creative guitar arrangements.

    3. Alan Gogoll – for his innovative tuning and harmonic style.

I would love to discuss creativity, discipline, and how they translate emotion into sound.
  • A valuable anecdote from your journey

One of the most touching moments in my journey is not from a stage performance, but from parents.

When parents tell me their child has found passion, confidence, and happiness through guitar — that is deeply meaningful.

Music has helped some children discover who they are. That is more valuable than applause.
  • What makes you a Superprof in music?

I am currently furthering my studies in music therapy and music psychology.

This gives me a different perspective on how children and teenagers learn music — not just technically, but emotionally and mentally.

I love teaching guitar because I believe it is a powerful tool for self-expression. My goal is not just to train players, but to help students express their inner world through sound.
