Fantastic piano teacher! If you're looking for a teacher who unlocks potential, builds confidence, and connects deeply with students, your search ends here with Fred!
As a parent, finding a teacher who can truly engage a young child is the ultimate goal, and he excels beyond measure. He's exceptionally patient which creates a safe space where my child isn't afraid to make mistakes and willing to share her ideas e.g. if different fingering could be applied
His greatest strength is his masterful, student-centered approach. He doesn't teach a rigid curriculum e.g. just traching from the exam books; he teaches my child. This was never clearer than when he guided my child, who was at a Grade 4 level, to learn and beautifully perform the first movement of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" as she found this piece very fascinating so asked Fred to move on to this piece. This piece is typically considered more advanced, but he broke it down with incredible skill. He tailored the fingering, focused on expressive phrasing over pure speed, and built her confidence week by week. He didn't just assign a piece; he crafted a personalised pathway that made an ambitious goal feel achievable and incredibly rewarding.
By observing my child's abilities and passions, Fred dynamically adapts every lesson's content, pace, and challenge level. This means she is consistently motivated—never bored, never overwhelmed.
The communication is exceptional. He provides clear, insightful feedback and practical suggestions, making me feel like a true partner in my child's progress.
Beyond technical skill, he enriches lessons with his vast knowledge, weaving in fascinating tidbits about music history or culture. This doesn't just teach piano; it cultivates a genuine love for music and learning.
Fred has taught both of my sons and myself for almost ten years now. He makes us all want to learn and grow and work to be better. His energy, enthusiasm and engagement mean that wherever and whoever you are, he will inspire you to believe and invest in yourself and achieve much more than you ever thought was possible.
His breadth of musical experience and understanding is vast, allowing him to follow and support your interests whatever they might be. Between the three of us we have had lessons in classical piano, contemporary piano, keyboards, composition, jazz and theory.
We have all made great progress. My sons have gone from complete beginners to grades 6 and 8 while I have gone from a hesitant player behind closed doors to teaching the piano myself.
Fred doesn’t just teach music, he shows you how to be a bigger and better version of yourself. I can’t recommend him enough. My daughter has been learning with Fred for a year, and the progress she has made is remarkable. It’s clear from the start that he is an incredibly experienced and knowledgeable teacher, but what really stands out is the inspiring way he connects with young students.
My daughter felt comfortable and motivated from the first lesson. In just one year, she has grown from Grade 6 to Grade 8, and is now continuing to work towards higher level.
Fred brings out the best out of young child through encouragement, high standards, and a genuine passion for music. We feel very fortunate to have found him, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a truly outstanding piano teacher. If you are looking for an exceptional piano teacher, I definitely recommend Fred. My daughter has been learning piano with Fred for about three years. During these years she has progressed quickly; in particular, she has been inspired by Fred and has enjoyed piano and music very much. Fred’s deep knowledge of music and his extensive professional network have also opened up wonderful opportunities for her—whether through exposure to new styles, performance experiences, or connections with other musicians who have further enriched her learning.
If you are looking for first class piano tuition then Fred is, without exception the contact you need. I cannot recommend anyone more committed and inspiring. Fred's passion for music is infectious and I would thoroughly recommend him as a teacher to both young and old.
Frederick Scott is a great teacher and a great musician. My children love learning with him and are making excellent progress. He is extremely encouraging and positive. His lessons are very enjoyable
I think learning with Fred is like being a kite sent flying in the sky, freely and joyfully with abundance of fulfilment, but with a string attached so can always travel safely and never worry about going the wrong way. My elder son just passed ABRSM Grade 8 exam in the spring. It's been an amazing music journey for them, which is really what learning piano should be all about!
Although hugely fulfilled by my role as an airline captain it occurred to me that a little self-indulgent stress buster might be welcome. A visit to the local piano shop provided the answer – an introduction to Frederick Scott, the very best in inspirational tutors.
I started playing the piano as an antidote to the stresses of corporate life… and it works! Lessons with Fred are really more like a weekly meeting with a good friend who happens to be a keyboard genius.
Having such a hectic working and family life, I never thought I'd fulfil my ambition to learn Jazz piano. I decided to give Fred's lessons a try and now I'm playing my favourite standards.
I'd been wanting to take my diploma exam for many years and Fred helped me take lessons around my work schedule, they were always great fun so never felt like work!I had a six month window in which I could realistically learn my pieces – I wasn't sure it was possible but wanted to do it. Fred encouraged me all the way, and amazingly I got a Distinction for the exam! He is a fantastic teacher, great at helping with confidence and tailoring the lesson to how he can best help you.
I returned to piano lessons recently after a gap of 25 years! Fred's effective coaching style has built my technique, knowledge and confidence to the point where I am back playing in front of an audience and taking higher level exams.
“ Jon had been composing, which he showed to Fred who quickly assessed Jon interests, and began to stretch him further. He is now a keen musician with individual tastes and enthusiasm for the piano & Composing. Fred is truly inspirational, he has the ability to identify nurture and bring out the very best of your musical talents.
Jon is currently a 2011 winner of the Royal Opera House Composition competition, what a testament to Fred.”Our son was grade 2 when he started his piano lessons with Fred and his progress has been incredible; winning a musical scholarship, competitions to recently passing grade 8 with high marks. Our daughter's progress is similar.
Fred is very calm, patient and flexible towards children's moods and requests.
There are quite a few piano teachers around but not many like Fred. We highly recommend him.View more recommendations
