About Eleanor
I am a fourth year English literature student at the University of Exeter, having studied one year at the University of Hong Kong. I tutored my peers throughout sixth form and have continued since. This has resulted in their acheiving higher A level results. I have also tutored in Philosophy and Ethics A level, thus enhancing my skills at tutoring essay writing across disciplines to an examinors rubric. I have experience with both medieval and modern texts, ranging from The Canterbury Tales and Sir Mandeville's Travels to The Great Gatsby and Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

My teaching method starts from the student's aims, be that working towards a better essay writing style, coherence and clarity of thought, or an enhanced understanding of a text. The students ideas must be at the forefront of teaching as I do not regularly impart facts but try to draw the student around to finding themes and symbols with guidance. A lesson structure would focus both on wider themes and close reading so that both skills can be sharpened. Goals of assignments and deadlines that a student may externally be working towards can also really help direct a focus of teaching. Finally, feedback on pieces of writing can shape lessons through indicating what may be most beneficial to study for the individual student.
