About Abdelmonim

French, law, and a passion for language

I'm a native French speaker from Belgium, with a background that combines law, public affairs and teaching.

I studied law in Brussels before working as a legal adviser at the Belgian Federal Parliament, where precision, argumentation and communication were part of my everyday life. I then became a lawyer at the French-speaking Brussels Bar, working in a profession where every word matters and where mastering language is not exactly optional.

Alongside my legal career, I have always enjoyed teaching French. I have taught extensively through Superprof in Belgium, including to Dutch-speaking students, and I have also taught French through a Brussels-based non-profit organization to refugees learning the language.

French is my native language, but more than that, language has been at the heart of my education and professional life. Years of studying, writing, arguing and teaching have given me a particularly precise understanding of French: its grammar, nuances, vocabulary, rhythm and those wonderfully complicated little details that make it both frustrating and fascinating.

I now want to share that knowledge with students in Melbourne, whether you're starting from scratch, looking to become more fluent, preparing for a trip, studying French, or simply want to feel genuinely comfortable speaking the language.

My lessons are serious about progress, but never about making French feel like homework. You will learn the rules, but more importantly, you will learn how to use them.

And yes, I'm Belgian. French is one of Belgium's official languages, so you get a genuine native French speaker with the added bonus of very good English. A useful combination when you need someone who can explain not only what French means, but why it works that way.

My approach to teaching French

Learning a language should feel like learning to think in another language, not like memorizing a dictionary. My goal is to help you become comfortable using French naturally, while giving you the structure and tools to understand why the language works the way it does.

My lessons are built around active conversation, practical situations and personalized exercises. Depending on your level and goals, we might work on:

Conversation and spontaneous speaking: I encourage you to speak as much as possible, even if your French isn't perfect. We use real-life situations, debates, stories and everyday conversations to build confidence and fluency.

Grammar without the headache: Rather than throwing grammatical rules at you, I explain them through examples and patterns, so that you understand how French actually works and can reuse what you've learned.

Vocabulary that sticks: We focus on useful, contextual vocabulary rather than endless word lists. I use repetition, associations and short challenges to help new words become part of your active vocabulary.

Pronunciation and listening: We work on the sounds, rhythm and intonation of French, with exercises designed to make spoken French easier to understand and reproduce.

Real French: I like bringing authentic French into the classroom: expressions, cultural references, everyday situations and the little details that textbooks often leave out.

I also adapt the lessons to the way you learn. Some students need structure and clear explanations, others learn best through conversation and experimentation. We can combine both.

Lesson length

Lessons are flexible and can last 1 or 2 hours, depending on your level, goals and concentration. I don't recommend going beyond two hours: at some point, even the most enthusiastic brain starts quietly filing a resignation letter.

My experience

I have extensive experience teaching French through Superprof in Belgium, including working with Dutch-speaking students and helping them navigate the particular challenges of learning French as a Dutch speaker.

I have also taught French through a Brussels-based non-profit organization, helping refugees learn French and become more comfortable communicating in their everyday lives.

Who are my lessons for?

Everyone. Complete beginners, intermediate and advanced learners, students preparing for exams, people moving to a French-speaking country, travelers, professionals, or simply anyone who wants to speak better French.

Whether you want to build solid foundations, improve your conversation skills or finally understand why French grammar seems determined to complicate your life, we'll adapt the lessons to your level and objectives!
