About Amy
Taught high school language arts at several local high and middle schools for almost 20 years and served as English Department Chair for six of those years. I was appointed to the state textbook committee and was appointed to several state level committees who developed the state standardized tests. I have taught SAT test prep and spent manny years working with students who had not passed the ISTEP+ (my retesting students had the highest pass rate in the corporation while I was in that position). Currently I serve as a private tutor and have worked with students as young as second grade on learning sight words. I use evidence based practices and am big on providing quantifiable results and clear communication with parents as well as offering resources parents and students can use on their own. I will tailor my work to meet your child’s specific needs, and not endless worksheets for them to complete.

My goal is to meet student needs first. I will assess where a student is and meet him or her where they are. I try to make things fun and engaging to students by getting to know their interests and employ a variety of activities to address specific learning styles. I get feedback along the way from students and parents. If i feel that i am not a god fit for your child or not having the desired results, I will be honest with you and help you find a more suitable replacement as I am there for your child’s success, not my own ego.
