About Michael Paul
As an applied futurist and strategic adviser, I forecast vital trends, scenario outcomes, and critical risks, and then convert these predictive insights into actionable strategies for decision makers. My clientele spans diversified industries and mission advocacies, with additional specialty services for high net worth individuals and family offices. Because geopolitical risk impacts virtually everything, it constitutes my primary focal expertise, integrated with existential technologies and behavioral finance. My formative backgrounds were in the financial markets and tech sectors, as well as conventional management consulting. My path evolved to encompass many facets of risk: property casualty insurance, disaster and emergency management, enterprise risk and crisis management, cyber security and business continuity, public safety and public health, and ultimately global security and geopolitical risk. Alongside my work as an applied futurist, I have a parallel practice in fusion executive coaching and holistic lifestyle coaching, exclusively for women leaders and innovators. In this practice, geopolitical risk is a consistently impactful dynamic as well. My academic background includes undergraduate STEM training at the University of California Irvine, and a graduate degree from the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs. I offer mentees an unconventional, multidimensional perspective on global risk that can be taught as a structured systems thinking methodology, yet also incorporates freeform agile thinking.

Geopolitical risk is the overarching force that determines the fate of the global economy, market opportunities, and mission realities. The intersection of geopolitical risk with existential technologies, headlined by AI and quantum computing, robotic automation, biomedical engineering, and advanced space exploration, has only accelerated and complicated an already hyper complex global arena. For executive leaders, entrepreneurial innovators, and mission decision makers, essential skills in geopolitical risk assessment and management - how to analyze, quantify, navigate, mitigate, and ultimately predict and capitalize upon it - are no longer ancillary or academic. Geopolitical risk skills are increasingly indispensable to the core competencies of executives and entrepreneurs, across all industries, from startups to small businesses to multinational enterprises. In as briefly as a single 60 to 90 minute session, I will share with you the vital knowledge base and applied tools to confront geopolitical risk, in your industry, market, or mission, with strategic confidence. All sessions will be a video conference in a hybrid lecture-conversation format, using dynamic case studies ripped straight from the geopolitical headlines. I will present you with an optimum ratio of foundational theory and real world exercise, synthesized from numerous disciplines across political, social, behavioral, and systems sciences. Very importantly, I will not waste your time with biased political punditry, which unfortunately characterizes much of the mass media discourse on geopolitics. Within the opening minutes of our introductory session, you will sense both the intellectual seriousness and the energizing uniqueness of my approach. Tailored to the depth, breadth, and topical specificity of geopolitical subjects at your direction, additional sessions can be arranged for expanded and targeted skill building.
