About Leland
I am a flute tutor with 7 years of experience, having taught over 150 students of all levels. My lessons are designed to combine technical precision with musical creativity. I help students build strong skills in breath control, finger dexterity, tone, and rhythm, while also encouraging improvisation and expressive performance.
Every lesson is tailored to the student’s learning style and goals, ensuring steady progress and an enjoyable experience. I also guide students in sight-reading, music theory, and ensemble practice, giving them a comprehensive musical foundation. My goal is to inspire students to play with confidence, skill, and a lifelong love for the flute.

I approach flute teaching with a methodology focused on adaptability, positivity, and collaboration. I recognise that each student learns differently, and I tailor lessons to suit individual learning styles, ensuring that every student experiences both progress and enjoyment in their musical journey.
Flexibility is a core principle of my teaching. I adjust exercises, repertoire, and practice routines to match the student’s goals, interests, and pace. Collaboration is emphasised through duets, group exercises, and ensemble practice, helping students develop confidence, teamwork, and musical sensitivity. Positivity forms the foundation of every session, creating a safe and encouraging environment where students are motivated to take risks, explore creativity, and celebrate achievements.
Alongside flute instruction, I provide lessons in music theory, sight-reading, rhythm exercises, and ear training. This holistic methodology balances technical development with expressive playing, preparing students to become confident, versatile, and passionate musicians.
