About Eileen
I am an Oxford graduate from Ireland. At Leaving Certificate, I achieved the highest grade, equivalent to an A*, in Irish, and came second in the national finals of Irish language debating. At Oxford, I was the Irish Society's language officer, responsible for organising classes, events and speakers. I have mentored and tutored students from ages 6 to 60 in beginner's or intermediate Irish, from conversational to Leaving Certificate level.

Whether you're gearing up for an exam, you've been diligently completing your Duolingo every day during lockdown or you just want to get started from scratch, I can help you to master the beautiful Irish language!
I prefer to teach according to what the student wishes to learn and believe that language learning ought to be tailored to its intended use. Therefore, with a student who wants to learn conversational Irish, I will focus on practising everyday use of language with a degree of spontaneity that will allow them to "learn from doing". With a student preparing for an exam, I prefer to focus on perfecting problematic elements of the curriculum, such as essay writing and grammar questions. However, I am happy to adapt to suit the needs of any pupil. Please message me with any queries or questions!
DIALECT: we will mostly be learning an Caighdeán Oifigiúil, the Official Irish Standard which is standardised and used in exams. I am from Co Mayo, with good knowledge of dialectal differences occurring in Munster and Donegal Irish also. Please let me know if you have any specific requests!

Perfect! My Irish lessons with Eileen have been superb! She approaches every lesson with a detailed plan and great materials. She is able to explain really complicated quirks of the Irish language simply and in a way I can remember. She's very patient explaining how to pronounce words. The lessons are also enjoyable. She's very kind even when I know my pronunciation is butchering the language!
