About Lucy
As an Oxford student myself, I am familiar with the concepts of exam-stress and pressing deadlines. I believe that as a tutor, it is not my job to drill a student with information, but to help them want to thrive, arming them with examination and revision strategies whilst nurturing their passion for their studies. By helping them to explore their interests, a tutor can go beyond preparing them to pass this stage of education, and aid them in discovering where they want their educational journey to take them in the future.
This certainly requires the hard work of not only the tutee but of the tutor; it is my commitment to providing assistance and feedback in the lessons, but to complete marking outside of these time-slots in order to help students as much as possible. Therefore, by working together, I believe that the student and I can achieve results that we are proud of.

As a student of English Language and English Literature at the University of Oxford (and having achieved an A in Government and Politics and an A* in the essay-based A-levels of Psychology and English Literature, with full marks in my essay-based EPQ), my love of writing and literature have helped me to have a high academic performance. Therefore, I truly understand the necessity to passing this on to my students, to help them want to thrive.
My approach to learning revolves around practice; all examinations have a consistent rubric, and becoming familiar with this (whilst nurturing this passion for literature and writing) is integral to success. Thus, I typically briefly introduce the theoretical skills and techniques to the student, before spending the bulk of the time working with them to implement these into the writing. This is all with the aim of building their confidence until freely integrate their learning into their writing, which I can then mark.
Usually, I find that lessons of 1 - 1.5 hours suit this approach, but this is easily tailored to the student's needs. Whilst the child whom I helped to prepare for 11+ examinations over six months thrived in weekly hour-long sessions, more intensive ones nearing two hours were more suitable for my GCSE English Literature and English Language student.
As with my 11+ student, having a more varied range of subjects covered in tutoring sessions can also help to maintain engagement. Whether it be assistance with homework, explaining difficult content or additional testing and practice, my grade 9s in all Triple (separate) sciences and maths (alongside the top grade in the Additional Maths qualification) have left me competent in STEM subjects.
I therefore am very willing to prepare students for 11+ examinations in all areas (mathematics, verbal and non-verbal reasoning) as well as for the English Language and English Literature GCSE examinations.
