About Ryan
I am a first-year computational biochemistry PhD student who has just started tutoring as a way to help out other students during this time of turbulence. I previously mentored a year nine student with their chemistry, geography and biology (this was while I was in sixth form). Their chemistry attainment went up from a borderline 4 to a 6; biology went up by one to 6 and geography went to a seven from a 5. I also encouraged him to take sports more seriously as it's an excellent way to cope with stress and it's a productive pastime. This took place on Wednesday mornings before registration. My practical experience with chemistry and biology was at year 7 experiment showcases during induction day. The two most vivid experiments that stuck out in my mind are the Bunsen burner flame tests and the elephant toothpaste demonstration. I stuck to all three sciences, but I have a preference for biology and chemistry. Through year nine to year 11, I did triple science, achieving high As in all three (equivalent to grade 8 after the change in GCSE grade system). In terms of grading at University, I graduated undergraduate in biochemistry with a 69%, upper 2:1/first. For my master's I graduated in pharmacology with a 64%.

My main target are GCSE and A-level students (years nine to 13), from those who need help with the basics to those who want to challenge their understanding of more complex ideas and their applications to the real world. I highly encourage the usage of past papers throughout the year, not just during exam season. This should also be supplemented with Quizlet or Anki for active recall. I would say I'm an understanding person with a flexible approach to learning. I'm also open to using suggested resources from the student if they're more comfortable with said resources.
